Imprints and Publishers

Crime fiction's popularity allows small publishers and specialist imprints to flourish.

From Golden Age and Classic Crime re-issues, historical mysteries to international fiction in translation, here are some of the most interesting and exciting mystery and crime fiction collections around.

Golden Age and Classic Crime

The British Library has been publishing the Crime Classics series at a rate of currently one book per month since 2014. Novels by well-known writers as well as long neglected authors are made available again, and the short story anthologies are very popular.

Galileo Publishing is a small imprint. It is re-issuing several Golden Age authors, including Joan Cockin and Clifford Witting.

The Collins Crime Club is dedicated to publishing many classic authors and books about crime fiction. It carries on from the classic imprint founded in 1930.

Penguin also has its own Penguin Modern Classics - Crime and Espionage imprint in green.

International Crime Fiction

Bitter Lemon Press publishes highly-regarded contemporary crime fiction from around the world, including Cuba, France, Japan, Switzerland, Italy and Iceland.

Pushkin Vertigo publishes thrillers and crime fiction from around the world, especially Japan. Their list comprises old classics as well as contemporary and historical crime fiction.

The MacLehose Press is an imprint of Quercus Books, founded in 2008, and publishing the very best crime literature from around the world; mainly in translation.

Orenda Books is a small independent publisher with a literary international list; half of Orenda's books are in translation, with a great number of Nordic authors.
